Netflix Horror For October Article Cats

October. It’s the month we have all been waiting for. Temperatures start to drop, leaves start to change colors, and for some strange reason there are already as many Christmas decorations as there are Halloween ones. Strange retail strategies aside, it’s a great time for white girls to drink their pumpkin spice beverages and for everyone to decorate their house with actual pumpkins. Of course, while you prepare for that one holiday where everyone becomes a nerd and cosplays, why not watch some scary films? If you want the best, here are some Netflix horror options to consider.

American Horror Story

OK, this isn’t a movie, which is why it is starting off the list. If you haven’t watched this show yet, now is the time to start. Fortunately, Season 5 was just added to Netflix, so you have many hours of the show to enjoy. Not only is the show focused on that horror theme, but there is always a Halloween episode thrown in there. Why not enjoy it as you prepare for that scariest holiday?

Wes Craven’s New Nightmare

Of all the monsters in horror movie history, Freddy Krueger is one of the most terrifying. The entire concept of a dream demon that can take over and leaves you powerless as you sleep is just terrifying. That, coupled with his sarcastic attitude makes for a fun and scary film series. Even if you just saw the first Nightmare on Elm Street, watching the New Nightmare is a great move. Without spoiling too much, let’s just say that Heather Langenkamp (Nancy from the original movie) players herself. When it comes to Netflix horror, Freddy Krueger is the real deal.

Re-Animator

An even older film, Re-Animator was released in 1985 and is based off an H.P. Lovecraft story. If you have read or watched anything based off of Lovecraft before, this should be enough to pull you in. If not, just know that it deals with re-animating the dead, but it isn’t your run-of-the-mill zombie movie. Instead, it’s a sci-fi horror that will really stand out.

Hellraiser

Not for the faint of heart, this terrifying movie has served as the inspiration for many to follow. It likely shows the closest depiction of what hell would really be like and does it with a terrifying tale. Pinhead is so easily recognized for a reason and this movie needs to be on your Netflix horror watch list. If you’ve never watched these movies before, now is the time.

The Babadook

An india film out of Australia, this movie does a phenomenal job of actually scaring you. While some horror films rely on gory visuals or cheap jump scares, this is a deep thriller that chills you to the bone. Be prepared to leave some extra lights on after you watch this, because it’s downright terrifying.

The Lazarus Effect

Another non-zombie movie that deals with reanimation, this was relatively recent horror film was very well-done. It stars some familiar faces and offers a sci-fi horror tale that will really make you wonder what happens after death and question the limits of the human mind.
