We’ve found ourselves in a prickly conundrum at the crossroads of purely entertaining and impossibly idiotic, and we’re damn glad it’s not us standing in the middle of the path. In this week’s video compilation we bring you some of the best and most excruciating dares, pranks and bets placed against nature’s very own form of non-therapeutic acupuncture.
According to Wikipedia (a website we have an unofficial very loving, long-term relationship with here at Article Cats):
“Cactus (plural: cacti, cactuses, or cactus) is a member of the plant family Cactaceae, a family comprising ca 127 genera with some 1750 known species of the order Caryophyllales. The word ‘cactus’ derives, through Latin, from the Ancient Greek κάκτος, kaktos, a name originally used by Theophrastus for a spiny plant whose identity is not certain.”
Alas, stupidity doesn’t quite some it up, and if we’re at all honest with ourselves, it’s pretty damn entertaining, but there’s something fascinating about both the individual who is willing to subject themselves to such pain (be it with an inhuman tolerance) and the individual that seeks to see such pain in a humorous light.
Philosophy aside, there is something primal and deeply satisfying about seeing relatively harmless pain and suffering. Why else would we devote so much time to it?
P.S. I imagine this type of tomfoolery is exactly what Philip K. Dick feared when he wrote his many great Science Fiction novels so long ago.
