Summer is just around the corner, and while the urge to fret about getting in shape for that “yellow polka dot bikini” is strong, let’s remind ourselves to accept our bodies as they are. Rarely does anyone possess a perfectly lithe hour glass figure or smooth, blemish-free skin – including celebrities. So whether you’re pear-shaped or apple-shaped, thin or plus-size, here are some pics of female celebrities in swimsuits that provide some much needed realness.
While Ms. Upton is a supermodel, her body shape is refreshing for a model. The top-heavy beauty was told she’d never make it in the fashion world because she was “too lardy” – now she’s laughing all the way to the bank. “I can’t enjoy life if I’m not eating and miserable,” Upton said. Amen.
This list isn’t complete without the fabulous Lena Dunham, who has made a career out of being unapologetically nude and honest. “I don’t feel like my work is dependent on my size. I feel like my work is dependent on the fact that I’m an everywoman. I’d be an everywoman if I lost 20 pounds or if I gained 50 pounds, because of my attitude and it’s my relationship to the world and the fact that like I have two front teeth that are bigger than the rest of my teeth,”Dunham said.
Jolie is the last person you’d expect to be on this list, but skinny girls need love too! The A-list actress and director has always lamented having a broad shoulder and chest area with small hips – making her figure more triangle-shaped than the much coveted hourglass. She also loves her stretch marks, saying “I love it. It makes me feel like a woman. It makes me feel that all the things about my body are suddenly there for a reason. It makes you feel round and supple, and to have a little life inside you is amazing.”
The busty red-headed star has taken criticism with stride and proudly embraces her voluptuous figure saying, “I started out as a model and when I went to Italy to build my book; I gained 15lbs from all the pasta and cappuccinos that were part of my life over there. I saw my body change and I loved how it changed my appearance and how it made me look more womanly and sexy.”
The Oscar-winning thespian has been in the industry for decades, never letting the pressure of Hollywood affect her self-confidence. Back in 2013, Winslet got photo-shopped to oblivion for the cover of Vogue, making her body unrecognizable. Kate immediately called Vogue and it made us respect her even more.
Although Ms. Hudson has lost around 80 pounds since her American Idol days, she always maintained a healthy outlook – never wanting to look stick-thin. “I’m at the weight I want to be,” says Hudson, proving being fit is just as important as having a healthy body image.
Rebel truly is a rebel just by breaking boundaries and being a role model for plus sized girls everywhere. Not looking like a standard Hollywood starlet was actually a precious asset for Wilson. “One of the reasons my agents signed me is because I’m not like any other girl here. It has made things easier for me, because I’m distinctive.”
As the original “American Idol”, Clarkson shows that talent – not a perfect body – is the most important quality. Last February, Katie Hopkins fat-shamed Clarkson on the “The Graham Norton Show,” but it didn’t faze Clarkson one bit. She eloquently responded back by saying, “…if I’m happy and I’m confident and feeling good, that’s always been my thing. And more so now, since having a family — I don’t seek out any other acceptance.” But Hopkins can’t seem to let it go, later stating that Clarkson “…does look like she’s eaten her backup singers” and calling her a “chunky monkey.”
Since 2011, Sparks has been on a mission to get fit, the right way. “I would walk, and that turned into jogging, which turned into hiking a mountain and going to the top, which turned into Zumba classes, then ‘let’s see if there’s a trainer,’” said Sparks. Her goal was always to be healthy, not small. “Everybody’s got different shapes. We’re different sizes. We’re curvy. There are girls with boys’ figures; there are girls that are petite; there are girls that are bigger boned,” said Sparks.
Reese has always maintained a healthy figure and when she became pregnant, the academy award winning actress embraced her new body saying, “I am covered in stretch marks and cellulite but it doesn’t bother me at all. My body will never be the same again, but I really don’t care.”
