The decision to steal is never a smart one, especially if your strategy isn’t fully planned out. There are plenty of things that can go wrong, like getting caught on camera or being seen by a cop. Unable To Hear Alarms
Even though Klaus Schmidt was deaf, it didn’t stop him from trying to rob a bank back in 1995. It did prevent him from hearing the blaring alarm an employee decided to set off in order to alert the police. Since Schmidt was unable to hear the noise, he continued with his plans as if nothing had changed. He kept pointing his gun around and making threats until the police showed up and arrested him.
Job Application Error
Demetrius Robinson knew he wanted to rob a convenience store, but he didn’t want to commit the crime with customers around. That’s why he tried to stall by filling out a job application. Instead of using entirely fake information on the sheet, he filled out his real name. Once he finished the paperwork and the crowd died down, he pulled a knife on the cashier and asked for money. He got away, but it didn’t take long for police to track him down.
Pocket Dialing Dilemma
Cockiness can get you caught. When two boys in their 20s decided to go to Target to steal DVDs and video games, they actually succeeded. After they left the store, one of them accidentally pocket dialed 911. The operator ended up hearing them brag for an hour about how easy it was to steal and how they couldn’t wait to sell the products at a local video game store.
YouTube Confession
Some people don’t realize the things they post online can affect their “real” lives. A 19-year-old woman learned the hard way after she posted a YouTube video of herself bragging about stealing a car and robbing a bank. In the video, she fans herself with 100 dollar bills she planned on using to pay off her college loans. Of course, the police arrested her before she could spend a dime of the money.
Stupid Enough to Catch Yourself
A man from Michigan got hit by karma after trying to steal goods from a store. He stuck hunting knives into his pants with the intention of stealing them, but when the employees tried to argue with him about it, he ended up tripping and falling while he tried to get away. The fall caused the knives to stab him in the stomach, and he had to be taken to the hospital to be treated for the wounds.
