VidComp: People Getting Hurt While Texting And Walking

An entirely modern phenomena, texting and walking, that has added a few sad souls to the infamous list of Darwin Award winners (“first world problems” by definition) and although we may point and laugh (a lot) it is a growing, dare we say, epidemic in the modern world.

So, to remind you of the dangers and embarrassments of walking with your eyes glued to your phone, here are a few clips of some of those sad souls.

According to Wikipedia (the most trusted source of useless bullshit information):

“Text messaging among pedestrians leads to increased cognitive distraction and reduced situation awareness, and may lead to increases in unsafe behavior leading to injury and death. Recent studies conducted on cell phone use while walking showed that cell phone users recall fewer objects when conversing, walk slower, have altered gait and are more unsafe when crossing a street.”

“Additionally, some gait analyses showed that stance phase during overstepping motion, longitudinal and lateral deviation increased during cell phone operation but step length and clearance did not; a different analysis did find increased step clearance and reduced step length.”

Do you see “wexting” as an actual problem? Is it just a passing fad linked to millennial culture? Do you intentionally avoid telling someone when they’re about to crash into a wall/window/fountain/vehicle just to teach them a lesson? You might be an ass and we want to hear from you!
