Pokemon GO almost instantaneously went to the top of the charts in mobile downloads and directly following its release Nintendo stock jumped by around 25 percent, giving investors a very good feeling about the future of this augmented reality game. While players are already sharing helpful videos and tips on how to catch Pokemon, how to level them up quickly, and where to find the best locations to farm specific species in game, there is also a lot of other potential that comes with this app. Namely, some companies are looking for ways to use Pokemon GO to help people who really need it.

Users playing Pokemon GO are already reporting some of the cool interactions they are having with other players. They meet random strangers as they go around adventuring and are more than happy to share helpful advice on how to catch Pokemon. Often times, you’ll find someone running around asking if you caught that rare Pokemon yet that was over at [insert location here]. In general, it is being used to promote a strong community, as opposed to the very limited interactions you might enjoy playing the standard Nintendo games. In addition to these friendships being built, it is also being used by some to get into shape. People are talking about how they are now walking around every day looking for Pokemon, which can go a long way to improving people’s moods and promoting a healthier lifestyle.

Walk A Dog In Need

This animal shelter in Muncie is taking a creative approach to use Pokemon GO to help promote their dog walking program. Often times, dogs at animal shelters are left without much love or attention, so if they can capitalize on these players going out to catch Pokemon, they really could help in getting some needed attention for these dogs. Of course, this isn’t the only way you could use Pokemon GO for some good around your community.

Organize A Community Cleanup

This psyduck would especially like if you would use Pokemon GO to start cleaning up the community you live in. Since many players congregate around parks and public areas, think of how much good this app could do for local environments if everyone brought a garbage bag or a bucket with them to pick up trash as they walked. Who knows? Maybe if you pick up some of the trash less rattata will pop out and bother you. Considering that people are congregated in the hundreds or even thousands, a concerted effort like this would have a real impact, rather than those five-team clean-ups that never seem to leave a dent.

Help Others You Find

Of course, the ultimate way to use Pokemon GO as you travel is just to help whoever you can when you are out and about. See an old lady with a heavy bag of groceries crossing the street? Ask if you can help get her across safely. Walk by someone changing her tire? Offer to lend a hand. Whatever you find out in the world, always stay alert and look for opportunities to help. This game is already bringing people together and offering them extra exercise. Now it’s your turn to help do a little extra.
