Thus far, this winter has been uncommonly warm. It feels like summer in Florida and New Yorkers enjoyed temperatures in the 70s on Christmas Day. So, what kind of climate should you visit on your winter vacation this year? Maybe you’re loving the warm winter and want more of it. Or, if you’re like me, these temperatures have got you yearning for a ski trip somewhere freezing. Either way, the list below suggests some of the best places for your winter vacation this year; whether warm or cold.

1. Warm: Queenstown, New Zealand

You can’t get much toastier for a winter vacation than summer in Queenstown, New Zealand. The beautiful water and towering mountains beckon you to explore. There are several types of tours to take in Queenstown as well; from rafting to hiking to skydiving. Whichever route you decide to take, the view promises to be picturesque.

2. Cold: Aspen, CO

If skiing will make your winter vacation perfect, head to Aspen. Whether you are a beginner or an expert, Aspen has acres and acres of places to test out your skills. Plan to be outdoors a lot because there is so much beauty to see. But, at the same time, don’t forget to cozy up by the fire with some hot cocoa at one of Aspen’s luxurious lodges.

3. Warm: Ambergris Caye, Belize

Grab your swimsuit and sunblock and head down to Ambergris Caye, Belize for the beach winter vacation of your dreams. Ambergris Caye offers several places for snorkeling and marine exploration. Rent a boat or kick back and let someone else take the wheel to truly experience the beauty of Belize in winter.

4. Cold: Kennebunkport, ME

Sure, you can visit Kennebunkport in the summer-time along with everyone else, or you can have it practically all to yourself during the winter. Grab your coat and take invigorating strolls along the coastline as the sea breeze fills your lungs. Make sure to visit some of the state’s famed lighthouses while you’re there, too. And, although it won’t be prime lobster season during your winter vacation visit, you are sure to find someone selling these tasty crustaceans. You’ll probably appreciate the warm butter served with it much more this time of year.

5. Warm: Los Cabos, Mexico

Who says you can’t have a little beach party during the winter? Los Cabos, famous for its party scene, is still hopping during the winter months because temperatures average in the high 70s during the season. In addition to the party scene and the gorgeous beaches, gray whale season happens to be in the winter months (from December to April). Book a boat tour to observe these majestic creatures.

6. Cold: Cologne, Germany

You may want to save a trip to Cologne for next Christmas simply because of their famous Christmas Market that transforms Old Town. All of the quaint buildings are lit up and a Christmas tree that is over 60-feet tall marks the center of this market. The stores take on an old timey feel and sell handmade items, from toys to food. Visit this market before Christmas and bring home unique gifts for all of your family and friends.

Where will you be vacationing this winter?
