Every summer, the land is filled with great music and great festivals. From the 60’s to present day, our generations have seen the greatest our lives have to offer. Whether it is nostalgic memories or the hottest new and original talent to come from your neighbor’s basement, music will bring millions of people together for a special weekend somewhere this summer. Here are some that will be hard to miss.

KCON

The key acronym here is actually KPOP. It stands for Korean Pop. Most may not have heard of it but it is already becoming one of the newest and hottest styles of music. Originating from South Korea, think of it as a newer version of those Liverpool Lads taking American blues and rockabilly and turning it into the Merseybeat before importing back into our country. KPOP fans are the most enthusiastic on the planet and work up an intense revelry during the shows. It is located in two different cities: Los Angeles and New York to make it easier for the country to see what all the younguns are talking about. NY will host in late June while LA will host in late July.

The Warped Tour

This is one of the festivals that is different as it plays in more than 40 different cities across the country so instead of making plans to go to it, it will come to you or at least near you. The tour starts in Anchorage, Alaska on June 22 and ends in Portland, Oregon on August 13. Featured artists include Teenage Bottle Rocket, Sum 41, Less Than Jake and more for a total of 85 artists. Warped has a history of melding all the different styles of new music to make the event a smorgasboard of what is out there to enjoy. Think of it as a musical version of Dim Sun. And they have been staying fresh for 20 years and counting now. That means they know what they are doing.

Newport Folk Festival

This is a Granddaddy of the festivals. A pinnacle for the folk crowd, the festival by the shore of Narragansett Bay has hosted the newest traditions of folk since Bob Dylan was half understandable. Held during mid to late July, this place is history. Not only from the past but also glimpses of what is to come in the future. This year’s artists include Flight of the Concords, Ray Lamontagne and The Violent Femmes for 48 artists with more to be announced.

Lollapalooza

This is a world famous event held every year in Chicago. The hottest and historic names appear each summer. Four days in late July will give you a chance to see Radiohead, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Jane’s Addiction, Third Eye Blind and 169 other bands that will rock you all the way back home. Held in late July, it also offers an art market along with great food and a mini-festival for the kids. This festival has been rocking since 1991.

Summerfest

There are several Summerfests around the country but this one in Milwaukee, Wisconsin is billed as the world’s largest. A fact confirmed by the Guinness Book of World Records. Paul McCartney is one of the leading headlining artists to join this year. There will also be Blake Shelton, Tim McGraw, Def Leppard with REO Speedwagon and Tesla, Selena Gomez, Blink 182, Willie Nelson, The Hollywood Vampires who feature Alice Cooper/Johnny Depp and Joe Perry (Aerosmith), Death Cab for Cutie, The Decembrists, Billy Idol ,Barenaked Ladies, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, The Commodores, Weird Al Yankovic, Kris Kristofferson, Cheap Trick, 38 Special, Kool & the Gang, Chris Isaak, Bruce Hornsby, Styx, Blue Oyster Cult, The Grass Roots, Ides of March (remember Vehicle back in 1970?), the Wailers and more for a total of 127 headlining artists to take over eleven stages for three days. And these are just the headliners! It will run from June 29 to July 3, and continue from July 5 to July 10. For sheer overkill, this is one of the festivals that will make your mind numb.

Who would be your fave line up?
